I thought i should make a diff thread compared to computer upgrades but i currently have windows vista 64 bit ultimate (ew, yeah i know). I'm thinking of getting the windows 7 ult 64 bit as well and want to install it on the same computer so i can run dual-boot. I currently have 2 hard drives both 250gb but its actually 232gb cuz of formatting of course. Should i install the new OS on the second drive or on the same drive as vista? I would have to make a new partition of course. if i install on same drive but when i run my games, if its installed in vista's program files(x86) can i run them even though im on windows 7? Or would i have to reinstall it again for windows 7?
My second hdd is empty so i was thinking of just installing/moving all games/files and what not to second drive while installing windows 7 to 1st drive on a new partition, it would be easier that way i THINK to run games and other software.
I know that the windows 7 betas were essentially just a do-over of vista and just sort of sat on top of everything that was already there. Dual booting vista and 7 is stupid because they are essentially the same thing. Windows vista is an earlier version of 7.
Most things don't have a compatibility issue with 7, especially as of tomorrow with the official release so I would just install that on my entire OS. It looks good, behaves well, doesn't crash, and isn't a resource hog.
Most importantly, you can keep all of your old files and it should seem like nothing in that department was touched. Again this is only going by what the Beta version did.

hmm that's true. i always thought windows 7 was just the "fixed" version of the "failed" vista when it released since it looks and functions similar. The only thing that needs more are drivers for windows 7, it shouldn't have any compatibility problems when using the virtual drive acting like xp which is awesome. Too bad some intel processors can't use virtual drive, i wonder if they got that fix, but thats not a problem since i have amd. Yea dual-booting with vista installed would be retarded. Id prob just get ubuntu, linux then. Thx for the tip
Most Vista drivers will work with 7.
