I have a nagging issue with the stats system. The stats shouldn't be active until there are at least 4+ players in the server. As a high level player, it’s impossible to have a positive session unless there are other high level guys on (very rare early in the morning).
Basically, high level guys get nothing for killing low level players, but loose a ton of points when they are killed by them. If there are only a few of them on (low ranked players), it’s impossible to recoup your losses without #1. being a total asshole spawn killer, #2. a complete jerk or #3. happen to be killing the only player/s in all of CSS who don't mind being killed 100 times without disconnecting.
Case in point:
Tonight there were 3, sometimes 4, players on the server (myself included). Since I am (well, was) ranked #2, I lost 20+ points anytime they killed me, and in return only gained 1 point when I killed them (they were ranked 400-300 roughly). By the time I kicked it into serious game mode, I was already down 160 points. I could have been a complete dick to start with, but was trying to get a bigger game going...so I didn't play 100% for fear of driving them away. In return, I lose 160+ points for the session, and drop to #3 on the stats. To put it into perspective, I would need to kill them a total of 160 times to have a neutral session (I got 1 point for each kill). Since they were pretty high level using shotguns, the chances of me scoring 160 unanswered kills was remote. When the server is full, there are simply more people to kill, making it easier to get your points back.
While some of you may find stats completely childish, I enjoy moving up the ranks. I don't know the exact figure, but I have spent at least 8hrs+ this weekend working for the #2 spot, only to lose it in 30 minutes. If the stats system was augmented in the above way, this could have been avoided.
I love the server, and I love keeping the server busy. But as it is, I am afraid to join the server when there are only a few on, as I know it’s going to be a negative session no matter how I play. If there was a way I could opt out of the stats system, then I wouldn’t care. But since everyone gets “ranked”, I feel compelled to play well. Call me strange, but that’s the way I work.
Anyways, thanks for reading this.
Everyone on the server gets this same "disadvantage". If anyone joins when there are only a few people present in the server they too will get the same treatment that you feel you are receiving so in the end it ends up balancing itself out.
The stats are there for fun, and to this day no one has complained about this because look at what it is. It's a CSS server, where people go to surf and play a video game.I personally think that the stats system should be in favour of lower ranked players, and that it should be easier for someone to overtake 1st, than to just hold onto it.
You have to remember that at some point you were new and at that same point you had this same advantage of being able to kill high level players, and move up the ranks fairly efficiently. It all balances out in the end.

Stats do favor lower level guys, as evidenced by the fact they get a great deal more points per kill. A good example of this is a recent game played by BlindKiller, where he went 100kills to 4 deaths, and was STILL negative points for the game.
Regardless, that’s not my issue, nor did I even mention anything about the "fairness" of the current points system. Also I have only recently made a run at the top 10, so I am hardly holding onto any position. If anything, I have broken the status quos being low RPGrank in the top 10...all made possible by the current points system, which I like.
My issue is when the stats get activated. Most servers I have played on the stats system was disabled with less than 4 players. I was simply suggesting the same be done here. Game dynamics are different with a few people, as players are more focused on growing the game then scores. Why should high ranked players be punished when they are simply trying to bring people into the server? You are correct; all the players are subject to the same treatment. This is probably why most any high ranked player would simply dominate a game, emptying the server early in the morning, which happens all the time.
Also, while stats are an amusement to you, they are a serious part of the game for others...which is kinda the point...something for everyone if you get my drift. Ask BK what he thinks of the stats, I am sure your opinion will differ greatly from his.
Since we are coming from different points of view, I'll make it really simple.
Option #1. I don't join the server when there is only a few playing. Saves my stats, but doesn't help the server.
Option #2. I join the server, and promptly kick everyone’s ass into oblivion and they end up leaving. Saves my stats, but doesn't help the server.
Option #3. I join the server and casually play, give the other guys a chance by using a shitty a gun, etc. They get kills and are happy...perhaps more likely to stick around for a few minutes and get the server going. My stats get rapped, essentially negating hours of work. If the server doesn't populate, then I won't have any chance to recoup my losses.
Maybe I am a rarity in the CSS world, but I DO nerf myself when playing with only a couple guys. I don't want to scare them off. I am level 1500...high enough to suck the fun out of the game for a new guy, so I go easy in the hope that the presence of 3 or 4 guys on the server will motivate others to join. However by doing this I get punished via my stats. If you’re not into stats, then you may just not get it.
Regardless, thanks for reading.
You don't lost 20 points. The highest possible points you could lose to someone who is very low ranked is 12 points. BUT they gain 25 points off you. I dont think it should matter on the number of players playin the server, its just how you play.
Im ranked 4 and do just fine in obtaining a positive point session while playing. I'm only lvl like 800 as well, under the name forest gump aka lilspanky. But anyway just hit n run, best bet to gainin points.
And you Don't gain only 1 point, the minimum amount you gain from killing another player is 2 points. So everytime you kill someone you get 2 points unless they are closer in rank it could be higher.
This is how i calculate, every death that i was killed by a low rank'd player i multiply it by 6, so if i died 3 times i would need 18 kills just to be at +0. Try to avoid death until you reach that.
I know for fact that the most you lose is 12, opposing gains 25 at max, and you gain 2 at minimum when killin others.
I don't agree one bit spanky. Because what you describe there is hlstatsx. That is a complete correct overview of that stats system. This server does not run that ranking system. There are times as badcon stated that I've been 100-4 and I'm negative 60 points.
I've also been playing in this server long enough to see and check with people I know of letting them kill me and me them. I've also closely watched my points being the #1 ranked player in this server for about 4 months now to know that killing a very low level person i.e. 0-500 will only give you 1 point. They kill you and you lose upwards of 40 points. I've been knifed by a very low level at one point and I kid you not I lost 75 points from 1 death.
Until you actually watch and know this particular stats system, do not chime in. Oh, and your typing and grammar is terrible.
My opinion is it just sucks but that's life. The stats system being used on the server is just the stock one that comes with most any server. I would absolutely love to see hlstatsx being used on this server but it requires payment every month. I'm not certain on the cost per month, but regardless of how much I love that stats system I wouldn't pay for it to be on this server. Mostly because a legitimate stats system like that would only cause competitive play to be in the #1 spot because it would be a lot easier to gain points. As it sits now, you really really have to play your ass off and be a really good player to attain top10 much less the #1 spot.
I do agree with badcon that keeping your rank and caring about it will drive other people out of the server. I've done it before because there are times were I refuse to lose a single point. Other times, don't really care and the server stays moderately full. As long as the top ranking players in the server don't always care about keeping their rank and destroying new players the server will survive without a hickup, might be lower at times, might be higher. Who's to say. But I do not think that the server will have any decreased numbers over the ranking system.
!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were totally right, the server is not running on hlstatsx, a few deaths and i got a -142 points.......now i know what you mean. Jesus we need that hlstatsx ownage!!!!!! i was like 150 kills and 15 deaths with that much of a minus point. -___-" not cool.
