Mandating Health insurance requirement like car insurance is his comparison.
"President Barack Obama says requiring people to get health insurance and fining them if they don't would not amount to... a backhanded tax increase. "
"What it's saying is, is that we're not going to have other people
carrying your burdens for you anymore," said Obama. "Right now
everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase."

Answer this for me, OP. When a person without insurance gets sick, who pays for it?

I still think the American Health Care system is retards, Obama's health care is just a step towards a better America.
And Chase to answer your question, In Obama new system like in EVERY OTHER FIRST WORLD COUNTRY IN THE WORLD! The Government pays for it, and they get the money to pay for it by Taxes.
I've got more experience then your mom and a bigger stick then your dad.
Well the American system isn't "retards", your country Canada has way lower survival rates for all forms of cancer. So that's that. My point was, Obama's health plan may be socialism - at least the part where the Government becomes single payer, but the individual mandate feature isn't a bad idea. The penalty on people who refuse to buy it will encourage the masses to do so and get rid of those who are leeching on the system.

raise the taxes=less buying=less production=less jobs...
Thats just stupid and ignorant american thinking. Look where it got your car industry. (Also the lack in responsibilty for the enviroment)
Having better health care increases the feeling of social security wich thereby increase the intention of buying more.
In the end it comes down to a simple question: would you be willing to sacrifice a small portion of your personal wealth to help other people out who cant afford traditional healthcare? And keeping in mind that if you or someone in your family has a serious accident or catches a desease that you or them will benefit themselfs from the new rules?
