This is simply the biggest pain in the ass possible. Back in the day, the 360 game standard with a 20GB hard drive, 120GB if you were willing to cash in for the $400 Elite, so being a bargain hunter, many of us searched ebay for cheap upgrades for our tiny... hard drives. No transfer kit seemed to be the only problem, but after having mine for the longest time now, I've discovered that my hard drive (which came out of China, the region to really be wary of here) is missing a Partition 2. Partition 2 is the emulator for Xbox Original games and I learned that today, the hard way, after deciding I really wanted to own San Andreas again.
So now I'm dishing out more to play this game than I had planned for. I ordered a data transfer cable, which will allow me to hook my HDD to the PC and add Partition 2 in...
I just present this as a fair warning to any of you who may one day want to play a classic again...
Can't you just take the hard drive out of the enclosure and put it in your computer?

Yes and no. I have everything to do that EXCEPT a Torx small enough to open the enclosure. It's ungodly tiny and I couldn't seem to find one lying around anywhere. I figure if ever need to use it again, having the transfer cable will be more convenient in the end anyway.
Also, speaking of, most of the actual hard drives are generic refurb HDDs flashed to work with a 360, so if you buy one from ebay and get one of these, you didn't actually get a 360 HDD like you were told you'd get.
It's been awhile since I got this, but if it were recent, I'd contact the seller and file a complaint on ebay, cause technically, I didn't get the item I payed for, I got a refurb HDD inside a 360 HDD shell that had a half hour of work done to it to make it 360 compatible.
Blah blah blah...
yeah they've been doing that for ages, because all they use is WD Scorpio Bevs drives which are 2.5" eg laptop size they are relatively easy to buy cheap and upgrade.
i myself have my own business repairing modding and flashing 360's ect, and i buy 500gb Scorpio's for almost nothing and bung them in a enclosure and hey presto cheap 500gb 360 hdd
your exaggerating a bit when you say half an hour, more like 5-10mins tops hahaha
me and none of my customers have had any problems with imported/asian hdd's, and essentially you get what you pay for![]()
I wonder if someone has put an SSD in their 360.
