Windows Vista
The only thing I did was turn my computer on and go to Youtube. The audio on none of the videos would work. So I tried listening to music on WMP and that wouldn't work either. I restarted my computer a few times and the only thing I could hear was Skype.
Do you have a USB headset or anything plugged in?
Vista is absolutely terrible when it comes to sound.

Honestly, I would just close all of your programs that are running and unplug all of your audio devices. Then reconnect your speakers and try a few programs.
Also, as stupid as this sounds. Go to your audio mixer and make sure that nothing is muted.
If that doesn't work, then right click on your volume icon and go to playback devices and make sure that the settings there look accurate to your setup.

I would tell you to check your audio drivers but if you're getting sound from skype then they must be working.
You can check anyways. Control panel/system/device manager/system devices. Right click on system devices and then click scan for hardware changes. Do it a couple of times. Might find something.
If this doesn't work, move onto Windows 7 or even better, Linux! Much better OS's.

After hours of frustrating confusion I fixed it. My mom fucked around with the settings of the audio on the computer and didn't think it had anything to do with the fact that the audio didn't work. So I had to fix it.
A mod can close this thread now. Thanks for the help Bacon.
