    Default SAT Decisions.

So I have taken the SAT Standard Test as well as the SAT Subject Tests in Physics, Math 2, and Literature. I technically have 2 more chances to take the tests but one of them is after I would submit my college enrollment paperwork and such (the second test would still count, but be included in my form later). I can take one in October, and the other in November (after enrollment). I got pretty good scores in both types of tests but because I really want to go to Berkeley I obviously want to improve them. I wanted to know which test you guys thought I should take first, in October, to improve. Also, for the Standard Test I would be tested in all 3 areas, whereas for the Subject Tests I can choose to take up to all 3, but can choose to take less.

    My scores were:

    Standard Test (Max 2400):
    Overall - 1950
    640 Reading
    670 Math
    640 Writing

    Subject Tests (Max 800 each):
    640 Literature
    730 Mathematics Level 2
    630 Physics

    Thanks in advance

Well i found the ACT a lot easier than the SAT, as do most people, but seeing as that you've studied and taken classes for the SAT i can see your reasoning.

    never took SATs.
only reason i took the ACT was because it was a requirement to graduate from my HS and the school im going to doesnt require you to have taken either test.
i never studied for it and was high while taking it and still got a 21.

ok so im actually going to be serious with u for once leah.

first, what are your grades in highschool? cuz my guess in getting into cal, your gona have to get at least like a 3.8 maybe even higher. AP and honor classes help if u get A's in them

ur SAT score is gona be in the 2000-2100 range, but ur really close so i think ur gona get there

i also really suggest trying to get ur SAT 2 scores up. if u can get an 800 on math ud better ur chances by a lot. also the math 2 subject test is a lot harder than the SAT math section. so im pretty sure that the 2000-2100 is likely to happen

your essay when u apply is gona have to be really good too. they read everything. ur competing with a lot of crazy asian kids as well, but if u play sports or do extra activities then ud probably be ok cuz asian kids that try to get into berkley dont know what football is.

I have good grade and have *counts* 4 AP classes next year.

And you're saying I have to get a perfect score on the sat 2 math? okkk.

And my essay is gonna be damn good because I have had such a difficult middle class life (lol). But yea, I know what my essay is gonna be on. Also, I hate sports but my essay is still going to be better than those darn asians.

Not related directly to Leah's question but, SOME of you guys don't get it. ACT and SAT are similar and different in many aspects. The reason for taking one test over the other depends on where you plan to go to school. Rule of thumb says TYPICALLY ACT will help you get into more centrally located schools, where as SAT will be more of an advantage to get into coastal schools.

I personally plan to stay in the Midwest and will be taking ACTs this fall.

Berkley is in California, which is a coastal state, therefore Leah has no reason to take ACTs as SATs will help her out there...

At least this is how I learned it.

IN regards to your original post, Leah, I'd personally say shoot for the Standard Test first.

Take the SAT subject tests that are required, or at least pertain to what you want to study. Randomly taking a bunch of subject tests isn't going to impress them that much.

Also bear in mind that most schools throw out your writing section score, so they factor the rest out of a 1600. For example, I got a 660 in both Math and Reading, and a 580 in Writing, which gives me a 1900 out of 2400, and excluding the writing, a 1350 out of 1600.

Some majors also have requirements based on your scores. For instance, at Virginia Tech, you must have scored at least a 600 on your Math section to declare a major in the college of Engineering.

Berkeley recommends 3, so I didnt just take random tests. Do my scores look like I just walked in there with no idea what I was doing? lol.

Also, just because "most" schools throw out your writing score (which I am not sure is true) isn't any reason to just bomb it... what happens to that application where they dont?

I'm not saying bomb it, just saying that put most of your focus on the other 2 sections. I know a guy who got a perfect 800 on his writing section, but it didn't do anything for him.

If Berkely recommended any 3, then I guess thats fine. Most schools I looked at either didn't require them, or wanted specific ones. For instance, my friend is taking the SAT II Math because he wants to study Engineering at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, and I believe that is a requirement.

im just saying that an 800 on math 2 would look good cuz there r these 2 asian public schools near me and like all of them dont do shit but homework so im pretty sure all of them would have really really high SAT 2 scores....asians+math=crazy
