Oblivion for Older Computers

As I'm sure many have experienced, Oblivion needs a pretty nice graphics card to run AT ALL.

But what about everyone else with a bad computer?....You'll have to buy a better card right?..or if it's a laptop...new laptop?

Nope not anymore.

Oldblivion is a piece of software which allows graphics cards which are pre DirectX9 to run Elder Scrolls: Oblivion from Bethesda. This means that Oblivion can run on cards such as Geforce 3, Geforce 4, Radeon 9200 and so on. Oldblivion is still in an early development phase, but it's fairly stable. However, there still are a few bugs and kinks to work out.

Supported Cards/Unsupported

The following cards have been tested, and run successfully with Oldblivion:
GeForce 3 series
GeForce 4 TI series
GeForce 4 Go 4xxx series
GeForce FX series
GeForce PCX 5300
Radeon 9550
Radeon 9200 series
Radeon 9000 series
Radeon 8500 series
Intel 9xxGM Express

The following have been reported to be working, but have some unresolved issues:
SiS 760
GeForce FX 5100 GO

And finally, these plainly don't work:
S3 series integrated cards
Most Intel series integrated cards
GeForce 4 MX series
GeForce Go 4xx series
GeForce 2

I loved Fallout 3 but I couldn't seem to get into Oblivion. Regardless, when I played, the graphics sucked balls. The Oldblivion screeny above looks better than the whole game looked on my 360.

Depends who you are. I personally hated it, but I loved Fallout 3, WoW, and tons of other games. But playing Fallout 3 before ES4O I expected a lot more, and was disappointed, bored, and confused.

I just love oblivion because of the whole "Do whatever you want"/Free roam idea. Don't like someone? KILL THEM!!...But like life there are always consequences ... My favorite part of the game is the tutorial level XD

Oblivion is old and you DONT need a fancy graphics card (by these days) to run it. Anyone with a PCI X16 slot and $35 can pick up a graphics card(on eBay) more than sufficient enough to max that game out and get 60+ FPS.

low rez textures, lack of shading, low physics, and single core CPU's make Oblivion a stiff, dry experience that ruins all the fun and purpose of playing it. One of the major selling points for Oblivion was in fact the graphics engine alone.
