    Default Subtitling help.

I recently had a school video project and it turns out that the audio quality of the videos aren't that great so the only other alternative was subtitling. The program I'm currently using is Subtitle Workshop, which isn't complex at all, but I am having issues with saving and playback. After I enter the subtitles and try to save or overwrite the video it saves as .srt or .sub or any of those other formats that aren't video formats. I am terribly novice in this area, and am not even sure what I am doing. Basically what I need is to sub the videos and be able to play them with the subtitles on WMplayer.
    What do I do?
Are there any other better free programs?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Honestly, Windows Movie Maker is all you need to add subtitles. It's so straight forward.

Select "Add title over text" or something like that.
Type in what you want it to say.
Select where on the screen you want it to appear (Top, bottom or middle)

    Easy peasy.
