    Any one smart in physics stuff?

    A car can accelerate at 18.0 m/s^2 and has a mass of 3500 kg. A motorcycle engine can produce 9000 N of force at maximum power output. If the motorcycle has a mass of 565 kg, can it accelerate faster than the car?

    I figured out the Fnet of the car and it was 6300 N, i also figured out the acceleration of the motorcycle and i got 15.9m/s^2. What I can't determine though is that if a higher Fnet means that the object is faster. The car has 6300 N and the motorcycle 9000 N, the car has 18.0 m/s^2 and the motorcycle has 15.9 m/s^2. Can the motorcycle accelerate faster than the car?

    I believe this is as simple as using F=ma and solving for the a of the motorcycle. This gives you a value lower than 18m/s^2 so the car can accelerate faster.

    I'm no physics major so this might be and probably is more involved.

    What grade are you in? That would help me determine if there is supposed to be more to this.

    the only thing i picked up from high school physics is that shit falls at 9.8 m/s

    The car can accelerate at 18m/(s^2) and the motorcycle can only accelerate at 15.9m/(s^2) so no the motorcycle cannot accelerate faster than the car. Also the force from the car is 63,000 Newtons, maybe that will help since you thought the car had less force as well.

    Well first of all I agree with Mr. Bacon. You just have to solve for the motorcycle using F=ma to answer your question "Can the motorcycle accelerate faster than the car? "

    Car:
    F=(mass)(acceleration in m/s)
    F=(3,500kg)(18.0 m/s^2)
    F=63,000 Newtons

    Motorcycle:
    You use the same formula as above.
    F=ma
    9,000N=(565kg)(acceleration) (divide N by Kg)
    15.92m/s^2=a

    18.0m/s^2 > 15.92m/s^2 <<<<ANSWER:::::::::::::::::
    analysis: "NO" The motorcycle cannot accelerate faster than the car.
    (Do some research on what causes the car to accelerate faster. Im sure its a long explanation regarding its physics' structures.)

    PS: average weights of the car is around 1,300kg to 2,045kg. Thats more like a "VAN".

    At that speed of acceleration and weight I would almost think it would be one of those drag tractors with multiple engines. 3500kg (just shy of 4 tons) going about 40mph is pretty nuts aside from tractor trailers. For that matter I've never heard of a " car " or production truck reaching that weight aside from the HUGE trucks like F-350 super duty and etc. The "motorcycle" must be a goped with a weedeater motor on it.

    To reach manhood, we are all cast into the fire and are purified by pain.
