Can OP handle debates and serious discussions?

If people on here matured a bit I would be all for it..

It's sad that no matter how much I ask and tell people to cut back on the overall gayness and trolling, it never happens. It is all linked to a select group of people who constantly make negative posts, or just treat the site as a second 4chan. I think a lot more people would register here and stay if there were more people having intelligent conversations. What's the solution to this? I hate having to ban people.. I try to make a ban my absolute last resort.. but perhaps that should change.

This idea is like communism, good in theory, but most likely won't work. But I guess you could always give it a try, restrict people who can't be mature, and if ultimately it doesn't work it can always be deleted I suppose.

Maybe it wouldnt hurt trying it but staying under extremely strict rules yaknow? Perhaps if a seriious section can last a set amount of days without any stupidity contaminating it we would know its future and keep moving with it. However the rules would stay extremely strict and have higher punishment for disobeying them for example No picture posts or no 4chan responses like "lol umad?" or "cool story bro and all of its variations". If someone does disobey the rules than the punishment would be double the infraction points they would usually get for doing something equal to the rules stated above in the normal sections of the forums. But idk I'm pretty tired and the idea sounds really good but probably a fail in the long run


EDIT: TL;DR version: Test it out and make a serious section with strict rules and harsher punishments.

Scarface, the problem was that so many people would get butthurt or caught up in their arguments.. then it would slowly start happening in threads all over the site. If the flaming was concentrated in that one area it would have been fine, but it just caused too much trouble

What I consider trolling might be entirely different from what someone else considers trolling and this is where the entire problem lies with you guys all just thinking that it's so easy to just moderate it strictly. 75% of the time, when I give an infraction on this site I get a PM back saying "WTFTFTFTF I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING OMG UR SUCH A BAD ADMIN", and the other 25% of the time the person approaches by telling me that they think I'm wrong politely.

Either way, I have to defend myself every single time and I'm sure it's much the same for other admins.

Also, I would rage hard and anyone on this forum that does not meet my mental capacity requirements and posts in the thread would probably get banned. (that's about 90% of these forums) So I'm just saying that if this does happen please be educated when you post because if you post something dumb, I will make you look stupid.

Hmmm that's a reasonable argument but why not have a infractions sent anonymously. This might make members hate all staff but who cares also have only one mod that deals with infractions, banning / lifting a ban...

I agree with this. No admin wants to deal with every person that gets an infraction spamming their inbox with butthurt.

If there was a simple option to make infractions anonymous I'd do it. I think the admins should ideally ignore the replies and not care.

That doesn't work, infractions and banning all go hand in hand. Not to mention a lot of the time certain mods aren't on while others are. If this section happens it's going to need constant moderation which means who ever is on at the time will be doing it.
