Mine is unfortunately dying right after RMA'ing my motherboard for the PCI-E slot going out. Got a new board back in the mail and it's installed.
Now the video card looks to be damaged some how as well because it will post video for 1 minute or up to 3 hours then stop posting video entirely unless I re-seat the video card.
Cool story, I know.
Any suggestions on video cards to replace this card that people have had good success with and will be a near match or better than this card? I don't think I can wait another approximate month before I get my PC back up and running so I will be getting a spare card now while it gets RMA'd.
geforce gtx 295
Ended up getting a GTS 250 for $150. And I appreciate the offer ace.
Probably should've been more specific like you said of card before and chipset but oh well, what can you do I was frustrated as fuck.
Hence why suicide said nvidia and dylan said ati, no one knew.
Had a 9800gx2 fortunately EVGA is doing a 1 time RMA and I already have a spare 790i motherboard so I'm going to be building a secondary rig here in the near future. Probably set up 8+ 1.5 terabyte hard drives and start downloading the internet. Not only that but running it on virtual drives so that I can scan the piss out of whatever I download. That way if something gets infected, it's a virtual drive and it can be deleted or closed or if everything is clean I can just transfer it over to hard drives.
I know, that card for how " old " it was is a really good card. the GTS 250 is barely any better and I've had the 9800gx2 since april 2008.
It's serving as a replacement at the moment, might end up picking up another one and making a SLI out of the 250's and use the RMA'd 9800gx2 as my main card on my other machine that I will be building. I might do that or I might just have it as a temporary replacement and use the 250 as my primary on the other machine. Don't know yet, we'll see when I come to that point.
ATI is hands down the way to go. An i'm not a ati fanboy, i love nvidia, but ati is the better choice.
I don't know per say about that. ATI and Nvidia are pretty equal that I've personally seen. But you're forgetting that not all motherboards are capable of running both ATI and Nvidia cards reliably. The only one I personally know of that is certified to run ATI/Nvidia and Crossfire/SLI is the MSI P55 board. Which I have the EVGA 790i FTW so that doesn't work for me.
But at that rate you're preaching to the quire because I'm MUCH more of an AMD/ATI fan but when I built this machine Intel/Nvidia were way ahead of the curve in comparison. Now because of broken parts and my lack of patience I'm going to have two machines that are pretty much equal rather than one and wait about a month longer to get it running.
730i and 790i can both run an ATI card fine,
although they cannot run them in crossfire because they are built for sli.
I don't know what you trying to say "The only one I personally know of that is certified to run ATI/Nvidia and Crossfire/SLI is the MSI P55 board. Which I have the EVGA 790i FTW so that doesn't work for me. " there.
Shoulda got the 4870 X2
Then you shouldn't be talking if you can't understand what I said. But, I'll explain it to you. Apples to Apples ( ATI / Nvidia ) and Oranges to Oranges (Crossfire/SLI). The MSI P55 motherboard is the only motherboard that I personally know of that can run both Nvidia or ATI in either SLI or Crossfire. I'll be sure to write out specific directions and a diagram for you next time.
Go find me people that are running ATI cards with the 790i motherboard for proof of what you're talking about and have been running them without any problems for at least 6 months.
Hell I know I can throw any video card into any machine and have it work, but will it work flawlessly and will it be as smooth as butter. The answer is no, specific cards go with specific boards because of the integration of the manufacturers and their relationships to each other. It's been this way ever since computers had the parts to modify that people could buy publicly.
And for the price differences I can't complain about this card at all. It's got alot more stream processors by far. But the core clock is only 22 mhz higher, the shader clock is a little better and the memory clock is up 600 mhz. Oh and of course I have a 1 GB card vs 2 GB. For about 1/4 the price and at worst half the card I'm happy where I sit.
Alienware Area-51 790i System Review - www.sharkyextreme.com
Alienware ships PC's with 790i and ati cards.
CrossfireX will not work properly, but the cards will still work.
I have a 730i and 4870 X2 and it runs perfect.
Suck my dick.

lolumad?
P.S. - Don't get you're panties in a twist because I've used lolumad? and had it said to me long before. You didn't invent the internet or some catchy phrase used by gamers years before you. Not to mention, go post in the bans sections some more. If you even can.
For the gains I would see versus the GTS 250 it's not worth the extra 300 something dollars. I might see another 30-40 fps. In a world where I'm never under 200 except in crysis 30-40 means nothing. Learn to spell and learn computers.
Unless you're trying to pour cash into a rig and want a video card that will be $100 dollars cheaper in 3 months that will last you an extra month or two in the long run, I don't see a reason to get an ATI.
I for one have been using an 8600GTS for the longest time. Not current, but still does most of what I need it to.
Although Nvidia has better and more frequently released drivers...
